On this beach on a
strand about two miles long, 100 cast iron statues lie scattered across the
surf. All are life size and are facing the horizon. This arrangement of man on
the ocean is incredible in and of itself, but Antony Gormley, the artist, makes
his work transcend the physical boundaries of the iron and breach the realm of
religion and poetry. The iron men completely disappear with the coming of the
tide. A person could walk the beach and never know the men were there. A few
hours later, another person would only see the heads. A few hours later the
water would be rushing, spurting past their waists. And, later, the men would
stand, rooted to the ground, completely visible.
On Tuesday 19th, the tidal prediction shows Low water at 18:25. Perfect for us!!!!!!!
